{october} updates

muubaa

Ever since I laid eyes on this jacket, I’ve been completely in love with everything about it. Muubaa has mastered the art of leather; their biker jackets are perfectly tailored and carry a feminine touch to a traditionally masculine, tough style jacket.
It's a MUST-have jacket for fall!
It's lightly padded and looks great zipped and unzipped, perfect for getting you through the odd weather that comes with transitioning seasons.
A neat feature about these jackets is the wire found along the zipper, allowing for a rougher look when leaving the jacket open. What makes me love it even more? The more you wear it, the better it looks!  The fact that it's a soft leather jacket it forms to your body after just a wear or two.
Also, even though it's a more feminine take on the traditional biker jacket, you can still sport the distressed look, so you can afford to rough it up a bit.

blossom beauty {how to}

{How to} keep your hair healthy this season.

With summer almost over and winter around the corner most of us will be faced with winter beauty challenges. One of those challenges is dry, frizzy hair. Here are some great tips and products to keep your hair soft, shiny and in control.

{washing}
Wash your hair less often. This one is tough for most of us. Our instincts are to wash our hair daily but it can strip your hair of needed nutrients and oils. Ideally washing your hair once a week is best but if you just can't do it {we understand!} then try washing your hair every second or third day.

{choose the right products}
Using the right products can make a big difference. You want a shampoo that is free of harsh chemicals and full of vitamins. Choose a conditioner that conditions without being heavy, that doesn't leave a residue and will protect your hair from harsh elements.

{add shine}
Adding an oil to your hair daily will improve dryness, add shine and eliminate frizz and fly-away's. You want an oil that is full of fatty acids, omega-3 oils, vitamins and antioxidants.

{treat and protect}
Deep treating your hair weekly or monthly {depending on your schedule} can restore the shine in your hair and help combat damage. Using a leave in treatment can repair and prevent split ends and protect against heat damage and free radicals.

{maintain}
Visit your hairdresser on a regular basis for a trim! Getting rid of dead ends will instantly improve the look of your hair and encourage growth.

varley's muses

 Blossom Lounge has been invited to participate in a runway event that will showcase the ensembles of five fashion designers and stylists created in response to the celebrated portraiture of Frederick Horsman Varley, a member of Canada’s Group of Seven artists.

The evening festivities will take place inside the Varley Art Gallery and features a silent auction of designer clothing and accessories, a boutique marketplace, scrumptious hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar offering a signature cocktail created especially for the event, and dance music played by our resident deejay.

Varley’s Muses is the official launch celebration for Sphere, and will help raise funds for the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham, and strengthen its mandate to support the Varley Art Gallery’s exhibitions and educational programming.

Event tickets are $20 each.

fidelity for fall

As the weather cools down,
the first thing we want to do is slip on a cozy pair of skinnies.
With a sweater, trench coat, blazer or blouse,
skinny denim allows you to feel feminine but comfortable, every way you pair them.

hair powder perfection

I've always had a love - but mostly hate relationship with hair powders.
Although they are meant to soften out oil and extend your most recent wash, I've found them to just simply cake to your roots, leaving a thick layer on your scalp, and often times a grey-tinged hue to your hair.
I've asked friends, hair stylists and researched on-line, but nothing works for me.
And then it finally clued in to me, just dab it directly onto your brush and then comb it into your hair, and voilĂ , grease-free bangs!

Why is it the most obvious of things tend to be the hardest to figure out?!
Let us know if you have any tips on how to apply this powdery-goodness.

bathroom + storage

The one thing I'm pretty sure we can all agree on is that there is never enough storage space in our bathrooms. Whether your bathroom is big or small; space is almost non-existent if you have to share it with a roommate, your kids or a spouse. Having room for everyday necessities and our favorite little luxuries is important so here are some great ideas we have found to help you do just that.

Create storage space above doors and windows with pretty and easy to install shelving.
Make it clean and organized by using jars and baskets to hold items.

Refurbish a plant stand or a drawer to hold bath items and towels.
Great for adding color and displaying your favorite products.

Add size appropriate units to display everyday items and linens.

If you are the handy type {or know someone who is and would be willing to help}
you can create a beautiful niche built into a wall. I love this!

Add decorative shelving to the inside of your cupboard. Great way to use left over wallpaper!

Use a bathtub caddy, create your own lazy susan or decorate simple boxes to hold and display product. I love the idea of labeling jars and boxes ~ what a great way to add detail to a space.

Be creative! Baskets, hanging boxes, colorful pails are all useful ways to hold and store your bathroom items and it's a great way to add your own unique personal style {especially if your renting your space!}
Do you have a great way to store your bathroom items? We'd love to hear it!
Tell us about it in the comment section below.
